Abdon M

hebrew
‘Aḇdōn / Avdón / ‛ôbad

This name derives from the Hebrew “‘Aḇdōn / Avdón / ‛Ôbad”, meaning “servile, servant, worshiper”. Abdon was the son of Hillel, a Pirathonite, and was the twelfth Judge of Israel mentioned in the Book of Judges (Judges 12:13-15). He was a member of the tribe of Ephraim, and in the biblical account was credited with having forty sons and thirty nephews. Saints Abdon and Sennen, variously written in early calendars and martyrologies Abdo, Abdus, and Sennes, Sennis, Zennen, are recognized by the Roman Catholic Church as Christian Martyrs, with a feast day on November 19 and July 30. In some places they have been honored on 20 March, and the first Sunday of May.
