This name derives from the Latin “Adelphus and Adelphia”, which in turn derives from the Ancient Greek ”adelphós (ᾰ̓δελφός)”, meaning “born of the same womb, brother, brotherhood, double”. Adelphus is the 10th bishop of Metz. Most agree he lived in the fifth century. Louis the Pious has moved his remains in the Abbey of Neuwiller-lès-Saverne, in 826. Adelphia is a genus in the Malpighiaceae, a family of about 75 genera of flowering plants in the order Malpighiales. According to a historical catalogue inserted in the Drogo Sacramentary, Adelphe (also known as Adelfus, Adelphus, Adelfius) is the 10th bishop of Metz. He was canonized on 3 December 1049 by Pope Leo IX.
