This name derives from the Hebrew “‛âmâl > amal”, meaning “grievance, iniquity, labor, mischief, misery, painful, perverseness, sorrow”. The only Amal mentioned in the Bible is a son of Helem, who is the brother of Shemer, of the tribe of Asher of Israel (1 Chronicles 7:35).
