This name derives from the Ancient Greek “amýnto̱r (ἀμύντωρ) Amýntas (Αμύντας)”, meaning “defender”. In Greek mythology, Aminta was the name of one of the shepherds of ancient Greece, author of a famous theft. Amyntas († 330 BC) was a Macedonian officer in Alexander the Great's army, son of Andromenes from Tymphaia.
