This name derives from the Hebrew “ʼĂmaṣyāhû” (Greek: ᾿Αμεσσίας; Latin: Amasias), meaning “the strength of the Lord, strengthened by Jehovah, Yahweh is mighty.” 1) Amaziah of Judah was a king of Judah, the son, and successor of Joash.
