latin
BABULUS > BAMBO > BIMBO > BAMBINO

The etymology of the word “bambino" seems to have onomatopoeic origins (language sound associated with an object or subject), in fact it is known that in the earliest childhood, B-P-M labial are the first letters that the child learns to pronounce (babbo, mamma). But even more interesting is to discover that "bambino" is the pet form of " bambo" and "bimbo", an archaic form for sucker, silly and dupe. In turn, the name derives from the Vulgar Latin "babulus".
