She was equated with the Greek goddess “Artemis”, though she had an independent origin in Italy. 1) Blessed Diana degli Andalò (1201–1236), sometimes d'Andalo, was a Dominican nun who founded a convent for her order dedicated to Saint Agnes in Italy. 2) Diane de Poitiers (1499–1566) was a French noblewoman and a prominent courtier at the courts of kings Francis I and his son, Henry II of France.
