This name derives from the Old English (Anglo-Saxon) name “Eadric”, composed of two elements: “ēad” (blessed, prosperity, riches, fortune) plus “rīċe / -rīċe” (ruler, realm, domain, jurisdiction). After the Norman conquest this Old English name was not commonly used. It has occasionally been revived in modern times. 1) Eadric († ~686) was a King of Kent (685–686). He was the son of Ecgberht I. 2) Eadric Streona (died 1017) was the ealdorman of Mercia from 1007 to 1017.
