hebrew
Layish / Laish

This name derives from the Hebrew “Layish / Laish”, meaning “lion”. 1) Laish was the father of Phaltiel, who married Saul's daughter Michal, who was already married to David. 2) Dan is a city mentioned in the Bible, described as the northernmost city of the Kingdom of Israel, belonging to the Tribe of Dan. According to the Book of Judges: prior to the Tribe of Dan occupying the land, the town was known as Laysha or Laish - which root the Hebrew poets applied also to the lion.
