mabelle F

latin
ăMāBĭLIS / BELLUS

This name has two different connections formed by both the suffix "bella" and "belle" that derive from the Latin "bellus", which means "beautiful" both from the Latin "amabilis" which means "lovely, pleasant" from which it derives or is associated as the name Amabel and its variants. Amabilis of Riom († 475) was a French male saint who logically would have assumed the name Amabilis upon entering the priesthood: his veneration may have resulted in Amabilis being used as a female as well as male name or the name's female usage may have been initiated by the female saint Amabilis of Rouen († 634), the daughter of an Anglo-Saxon king who would have adopted the name Amabilis upon becoming a nun.
