This name derives from the Irish root “cóem / caomh gein > cóemgein > caoimhín,” from the Gaelic script (Cʌoṁ), meaning “handsome, beautiful, gentle, kind, honest, gentle birth.” It was the first name that became popular outside Ireland in the mid-twentieth century. Kevin of Glendalough is an Irish Saint who was known as the founder and first abbot of Glendalough in County Wicklow, Ireland. His feast day in the Roman Catholic and Eastern Orthodox Church is on June 3.
