This name derives from Old High German name “Raganhar”, composed of two Ancient Germanic elements: “*raginą” (decision, advice, counsel) plus “*harjaz” (army, army leader, commander, warrior), meaning “wisdom of the army”. Saint Rainerius (~1116–1160) is the patron saint of Pisa and of travelers. His feast day is June 17. Born Rainerius Scacceri to a prosperous merchant and Ship-owner of Pisa, he was a traveling minstrel as a youth.
