LA ROCHELLE

This name derives from the French place “La Rochelle”, meaning “little rock”, which in turn derives from the Old French “roche”, meaning “rock (large mass of stone)”. There are two places in France which are called "la rochelle", 1) La Rochelle is a commune in the Haute-Saône department in the region of Franche-Comté in eastern France. 2) La Rochelle-Normande is a commune in the Manche department in Normandy in north-western France.
