germanic
*HRōþIZ *WALDAʐ > RU(O)M-WALT > ROMWALT

This name derives from Old High German name “Ru(o)m-walt”, composed of two Ancient Germanic elements: “*hrōþiz” (praise, fame, glory, renown, honour) plus “*waldaʐ” (ruler, might, mighty one, power, powerful one), which means “destructor, glory to commander, glory to the reigning, glory to the regent”. Romuald was the founder of the Camaldolese order and a major figure in the eleventh-century "Renaissance of eremitical asceticism".
