ETXE BERRI > XABIER

This name comes from the name of the Catholic Saint “Francis Xavier”, where Xavier stands for the saint's birthplace, the town of “Javier”, which in turn derives from the Basque “Etxe Berri”, meaning "new home". Javier (Basque: Xabier) is a town and municipality located in the province and autonomous community of Navarre, northern Spain. Francis Xavier (Francisco de Jasso y Azpilicueta) (1506–1552), was a Roman Catholic missionary born in Xavier, Kingdom of Navarre (now part of Spain), and co-founder of the Society of Jesus.
